LINDEN VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT

RULES AND REGULATIONS

APPROVED AS OF OCTOBER 16, 2000

 

ARTICLE I – MEMBERSHIP

 

1.      The members of this department shall consist of the charter members and additional members.

 

2.      All members who have resigned or have been deleted and who have applied to be reinstated shall be acted upon in every respect as original applicants.

 

3.      Membership classes shall be bound by the following:

 

A.     Active Members – To maintain active membership status, a member shall attend a minimum of six general membership meetings per year and serve actively on four activities per year.  Acceptable activities include work parties or fund raising activities.  The only exception to this shall be in the case of sickness or for some other reason which has been deemed valid and accepted by the President and/or Chief.

 

B.     Probationary Members - During the probation period, the probationary member shall be required to attend a minimum of two membership meetings and serve actively on at least one activity.   They shall also be required to fulfill all of the requirements of the probationary manual for the class of membership for which they are applying.  Evaluation reports of the above service will be submitted to the membership committee by activity chairman, either written or verbally, for the purpose of forming an evaluation report.  A probationary member shall have all the rights and responsibilities of an active member during the probationary period except:

 

1.      Hold elective office;

2.      Vote regarding department issues or in the election of officers;

3.      Have access to department keys.

 

C.     Associate Members – Associate members shall have all the rights and responsibilities of an active member except:

 

1.      Hold elected office;

2.      Vote regarding department issues or in the election of officers;

3.      Have access to department keys.

 

D.     Honorary Members – Honorary members shall have all the rights and responsibilities of an active member except:

 

1.      Hold elected office;

2.      Vote regarding department issues or in the election of officers;

 

4.      Only active and honorary members shall have access to department keys as related department business.  Keys will be given to the eligible members by the Secretary as directed by the Chief and/or President.

 

5.      The Linden Volunteer Fire Department House Rules and Regulations are to be honored by all members of the fire department and the auxiliary.

 

6.      All new members will be furnished a copy of these Rules and Regulations, the department By-Laws, and a copy of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) upon acceptance for membership.

 

ARTICLE II – QUALIFICATIONS OF OFFICERS

 

1.      Any member seeking election as an officer of the department shall meet the following qualifications:

 

A.     AT LARGE-MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS – All at-large members of the Board of Directors shall be active members in good standing of the department, at least eighteen (18) years of age, and members of the department for at least 1 year.

 

B.     PRESIDENT – The President shall be active members in good standing of the department, at least twenty five (25) years of age, and a member of the department for at least the two (2) previous consecutive years.

 

C.     VICE PRESIDENT – The Vice President shall be active members in good standing of the department, at least twenty five (25) years of age, and a member of the department for at least the two (2) previous consecutive years.

 

D.     SECRETARY – The Secretary shall be active members in good standing of the department, at least twenty one (21) years of age, and a member of the department for at least the two (2) previous consecutive years.

 

E.      TREASURER – The Treasurer shall be active members in good standing of the department, at least twenty five (25) years of age, and a member of the department for at least the two (2) previous consecutive years.

 

F.      CHIEF – The Chief shall be active members in good standing of the department, at least twenty five (25) years of age, and a member of the department for at least the two (2) previous consecutive years.  He shall also have at least five (5) years of fire and rescue experience, be Fire Fighter 3 and Hazardous Materials Operations or Fire Fighter 2 under the new Fire Fighter Program adopted in October 1994 by Virginia Fire Programs, and have a current EVOC certification.

 

ARTICLE III – AMMENDMENTS

 

1.      These Rules and Regulations may be adopted, amended or rescinded by a majority affirmative vote of the eligible active members at any regular membership meeting of the Linden Volunteer Fire Department.
